FIELD TRIP – On June 7th there will be a field trip to the Cambridge Narrows area. The trip will be led by Clarence Nowlan so you will not only have an opportunity to visit a very picturesque area but also the opportunity to consult with Clarence on all aspects of photography.
The group will gather at Tim Horton’s on the corner of Mapleton Road and Plaza Blvd. At 7:30 AM. If you wish to car pool this will be the time.
It would help if you could let Clarence know if you plan to attend so no one gets left behind as well giving him a chance to plan depending on numbers. His phone number is 506 758 2979.

The Beaver's 'Witness to History' Photo Contest

Were you there, camera at the ready, during a key moment from Canada’s past? Were you a personal Witness to History? If so, dust off your photo album, and send The Beaver your best historical snapshots of major events in Canadian history.

The contest closes on June 10th, 2008, and winning entries will be published in The Beaver, as part of a special feature package on "The Photos that Changed Canada" — 10 photos that influenced the future of our nation. Entries can be submitted online to contest@historysociety.ca or by regular post, at The Beaver Photo Contest 478-167 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0T6. The Beaver cannot guarantee that submissions will be returned, so please only mail duplicate copies of your photograph(s).

First prize: Olympus dSLR E-420 digital camera

Prize Description
First prize is the Olympus dSLR E-420 digital camera with 14-42 mm lens and 1GBxD card (approximate value of $655).


Second prize: Olympus Stylus 1030 SW digital camera

Second prize is the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW: shock-, water-, freeze- and crushproof digital camera with 1GBxD card (approximate value of $425).
Third prize: Olympus Stylus FE-340 camera

Third prize is the Olympus FE-340 digital camera with 1GBxD card (approximate value of $225).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Eligibility
All photo entries must include Canadian content, and depict a "newsworthy" moment from Canada's past. A "newsworthy" photo is an original image of a significant event from Canadian History that would merit reporting in a newspaper or other news media. Entries will be judged both on their newsworthiness, as well as their composition and aesthetic qualities. Judging will be, by its very nature, subjective and dependent on the professional journalistic discretion of the judges. The contest is open to all residents of Canada, except for directors or employees of Canada's National History Society and/or their immediate families, cohabitants, agents or contractors. Entries are intended to come from the private photo collections of entrants, and not consist of previously published professional news photographs. Individuals may enter up to a maximum of three photographs, but can only win one prize.

Format
Entries may be submitted both digitally and in hard-copy format and can be in colour or black-and-white.

Electronic entires must be emailed as JPEG files, at 266 dpi and be no larger than 4MB in file size. Entries can also be burned onto a CD or DVD and mailed to The Beaver. While entrants are permitted to crop photos, and also correct the tonal or colour qualities of their entries, they are not permitted to digitally alter the content of the images.

Entries submitted in print form must be submitted unmounted, and can't be larger than 8" x 12" in size. The Beaver will also accept 35 mm colour slides and transparencies, but they must be mounted, and originals will be needed to reproduce in the magazine.

Entries and Identification
Entries are limited to three photos per entrant.

Each hard copy entry must have a fully completed entry form (photocopies acceptable) affixed with tape to the back of each photograph.

Emailed entries should be sure to submit each photo as a seperate email, with a completed entry form attached/pasted into the body of the email.

Publication
Winners' names and photographs will be published in a future issue of The Beaver and on TheBeaver.ca. The Beaver reserves the non-exclusive right to publish any entry in any or all magazines, websites and/or educational, promotional or other materials produced by the History Society. Model releases are the responsibility of the entrant and must be available in the event the photo is a winner.

Deadline
Mailed entries must be postmarked on or before June 10, 2008 and must be received by June 16, 2008. Hand-delivered entries must be received by 4:00 p.m. CST. Mail or hand-deliver entries to: The Beaver "Witness to History" Photo Contest, 478-167 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 0T6. Entries may be emailed to contest@historysociety.ca. Electronic entries must be sent before 4:00p.m. CST on June 10, 2008.

Judging
The winners will be selected by a panel of judges on June 16, 2008. Winners will be notified by 5 p.m. EST on June 20, 2008. Decision of the judges is final.

Return of Entries
All original hardcopy entries (such as prints, colour slides, etc.) will be returned, provided the entrant includes a pre-paid return envelope with their entry/entries.

Responsibility
The Beaver cannot be held responsible for entries that ar lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation.

Canada's National History Society is not responsible for any failure of the wesite during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any email, online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion.

1. By entering this contest, you agree that any information you send to The Beaver becomes the property of Canada's National History Society and The Beaver, and should you win, your name will be posted and or published.
2. Contest is open to all Canadian residents, or who are not employees and immediate families of Canada's National History Society, The Beaver Magazine and Kayak Magazine. Subject to all applicable laws. Void where prohibited.

Contests for this meeting include “City Landscape” and “Free Study”.
Anyone submitting images needs to be at the university between 6.30 and 6.45 to give ample time to transfer images to the laptop, if you cannot make it by these times then the other choice will be to email your images to [focuscameraclub@gmail.com] by midnight May 14. Meeting well start at 7.00pm sharp; image transfers will cease at 6.55pm to allow for judging to be setup.

The Nomination Committee will present its report.

There will be an opportunity for a “Gear Swap” - Bring any equipment that you want to sell or loan and see if there is someone interested.

Night Outing – After the Gear Swap, we'll split into small groups and go out and have some fun on the city streets shooting whatever comes to mind (i.e. Eagles near the university; city landscapes or maybe street photography). We can then gather for coffee at 9.00 or 9.30pm.

NOTICE: The Annual General Meeting will be on Thursday May 29th at 7:00 PM at Room D102, Remi-Rossignol Bldg, U de M, Moncton NB.
